England defeated India in the first test by 31 runs.

The English team overcame India in a thriller at Edgbaston to lead the five-match test series 1-0. Sam Curran shined for England as the bowler scored a match-winning 63 off 65 deliveries after England struggled at 87-7.

Virat Kohli took India close to victory in the run-chase but no batsman could forge a formidable partnership with the Indian captain. Kohli ‘s scored an extraordinary 149 in the first innings which pulled India back into the game.

The Indian captain, however, became infamous among the English supporters after his celebrations on Joe Root’s dismissal. Kohli imitated Root’s mic-drop, and was later booed by English supporters when he came to bat in the first innings. Even when the Edgbaston crowd stood up for the Indian captain after his fighting performance in the second innings, it looks like there’s no love lost between the both.

Chants during Indian team’s departure

India will play their second test match against England at Lord’s, from August 9. As the Indian team bus left for the hotel, English supporters began the chants mocking Indian team.

The England fans chanted “Where’s your Kohli gone” at the Indian team and fans alike, who were also present to see-off the side.

It will be interesting to see how Virat Kohli, staying true to his tendencies of theatrical celebrations, will reply to the English supporters.

Earlier, the English side included Chris Woakes in the place of Ben Stokes for the second test match. Ollie Pope also makes his way into the squad as Dawid Malan was dropped from the side.

The Indian squad, meanwhile, is expected to remain the same as Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are unlikely to recover by the time of the Lord’s test.
