Manchester City Transfer News: Manchester City Defender Agrees To Join Barcelona In The Summer: An agreement has finally been reached between the two parties
Manchester City have failed to have their way when it comes to Eric Garcia. Despite Pep Guardiola speaking highly of the player and the defender being seriously considered one for the future by the Premier League club, the side has failed to convince Garcia to extend his tenure at the side.
Engaging in hectic negotiations with the player since last season has failed to transpire fruitfully for City. Despite refusing to sell the player to Barcelona for 10 million pounds last season and handing Garcia 30 appearances since 2019, the club has not succeeded in its aspirations of nailing down the defender’s future.
Manchester City Defender Agrees To Join Barcelona In The Summer
As per Fabrizio Romano, both Eric Garcia and Barcelona have reached an agreement, one which will see the player return to his childhood club come the summer of 2021. With Garcia’s contract at City running out at the end of the season, the La Liga club will end up securing the centreback’s signature for free.
While a deal is all but done between the two sides, a contract will only be put pen to paper in once a new president is elected at Barcelona. The deal will see Garcia seal a five year deal at the club where he was foraged a player before City acquired him for 1.5 million pounds in 2017.
Garcia was at the time a part of Barcelona’s U16 setup with him joining City’s U18, U19 and U23 ranks before eventually making inroads into the team’s main squad. His presence, positioning and ability to tame attacks by nullifying attacking plays has been held in high reverence by both City and Pep ever since.
However, with City indulging in the services of both Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake ahead of the ongoing season, Garcia has once again been left in the cold when it comes to Premier League appearances. Its clearly not gone down well with the player with him deciding to ply his wares elsewhere.
