Minecraft 1.20 Update: Pottery Shards and Their Types

What are Pottery Shards?

As archeology is an integral part of this update, Pottery Shards are fragments you can gather by breaking new sand blocks called Suspicious Sand. Once you break them, you will need to unveil them. You shall require a Brush tool to do that. Once you collect enough of them you can make decorated pots by putting them together.

How to Find Them

You can find these Shards by searching near the desert biomes and looking for Suspicious Gravel and Sand blocks. Look for Desert Temples or Desert wells. The wells are much more reliable in terms of Shards so you should stick to those.

Now look for those Suspicious Sand blocks at the bottom of those wells. Now, use a brush on those blocks, and keep doing it until you see a Pottery Shard. Desert wells have a 42.8% chance to drop a Shard while Desert Temples have a much lesser chance with a drop rate of 14%. There we recommend searching the wells for those blocks that drop these Shards.

How to Use Them

As we discussed earlier you can use these shards to make decorative pots in the game. But for that, you will need to find four of these shards. Keep searching different wells for a higher chance of obtaining it. Once you do find 4 of them, use a crafting table to combine them.

The formation will be so: One shard in the middle grid of the first row, two in the left and right grids of the second row, and another one in the middle grid of the last row. Craft this and it will make a pot.

Types Of Pots You Can Make

There are primarily four types of pots you can make using these Pottery Shards for now. We are sure Mojang will add more after the update but for now, here are their names:

  • Archer
  • Skull
  • Arms Up
  • Prize

Look out for the symbols you find on the Shards. They will tell you which kind they are. That is all you need to know about Pottery Shards in the newest update. If you want to know more about the Sniffer and Camel mobs, click here.
