“Carlos Sainz Must Ask Questions”: Ferrari Star’s Father Seeks Accountability for Charles Leclerc’s Actions Amidst All Smiles in Garage

After securing the pole position on Saturday, Carlos Sainz had an enormous task on his hands on Sunday. It was to keep Max Verstappen at bay and try to win the Italian GP. However, it was not possible as the Red Bull driver, with a superior RB-19, sped past the SF-23 of Sainz. Following this, Charles Leclerc closed in on his teammate which gave rise to multiple wheel-to-wheel tussles. Now, as per Soy Motor, Carlos Sainz Sr. spoke to DAZN F1 and asked for an answer to this.

After Verstappen took the lead in the race, Sainz and Leclerc saw endless tire-to-tire gloves-off fights, even though it could have been very dangerous. This went on even after Sergio Perez overtook the duo to move into P2.

Admittedly, for Sainz, this was not the case in Canada and Austria as the drivers were not allowed to go for all-in battle at these two races. This compelled the Ferrari driver’s father to ask Sainz to seek an explanation from the team.

Sainz Sr. wants his Ferrari driver’s son to ask questions

During the 2023 Canadian GP, Leclerc started the race from P10, while Sainz started from P11. As the duo recovered pretty decently, the team asked them not to risk their race and hold position. The same happened in Austria as well when Sainz was just behind Leclerc after the race started and Ferrari ordered the driver to hold position.

Now, the 63-year-old rallying legend is unhappy that Ferrari did not live by their own rule when his son was ahead of the Monegasque in Monza. Therefore, he asked his son to ask for accountability for the nervy duel.

Speaking on this, the veteran racing driver stated, “It’s curious. Sometimes they decide some things, sometimes others. He is the one who has to ask and understand the strategies, why sometimes they can attack each other and other times not.” [Translated from Spanish.]

Nevertheless, the result has brought some sort of happiness back at Maranello after some tough race weekends. Despite this, Fred Vasseur has claimed that he has some asking to do with both drivers.

Despite struggles, Carlos Sainz took home a worthy podium

The 2023 Italian Grand Prix podium at Monza has been the first podium for Carlos Sainz this season and he is happy with that. The Ferrari driver already knew that it would not be possible to keep Verstappen behind for long with an inferior SF-23.

Nonetheless, he said that he is happy with the hard-fought podium as the 29-year-old had to do the ‘dirty work’ of defense throughout the race. He had to fend Verstappen, Perez and even Leclerc off for the majority of the race.

Furthermore, Sainz Sr. was happy with the result as well. He said, “I’ll take the result and third place now that it has happened, I prefer it to be like this, without any type of order or anything. Deserved. Congratulations.”
