“Christ, the Delusion Is Strong”: Fans Slam George Russell With Brutal Reality Check Amid Recent Lewis Hamilton Disrespect
George Russell found himself in hot waters after claiming he is faster than his veteran and seven-time world champion teammate Lewis Hamilton. The statement was not taken well by the fans, who reacted wildly and mocked the young Mercedes driver for it.
In a recent lie detector test with the Sky Sports F1, the former Williams driver was asked if he was faster than Lewis. To which Russell replied, “Now, yes!”
However, the 25-year-old clarified that the Stevenage-born driver is the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. But considering himself faster than his veteran teammate was everything the fans objected to.
Even though it was his personal view, not many fans liked it as it upset a huge part of them. And when he failed to prove his words at the Canadian GP fans left no chance to mock him for his claims.
Fans react online after George Russell failed to prove his point in Canada
The video by Sky Sports was released on the day of the Canadian GP, but it’s obvious that it was shot before. With the young Briton sharing his thoughts and then failing to prove his point at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he became an instant target for the fans online.
Russell qualified behind Hamilton in the Canadian GP in P5. He was 0.266 seconds slower than his fellow compatriots and, in the final race, he failed to finish the race. Meanwhile, the seven-time world champion went on to claim back-to-back podiums.
Given below are some reactions taken from Twitter:

@Eves had a surprising reaction as well.
George really fell off on the day he could’ve terrorised that old man. Faster than Lewis it seems…. pic.twitter.com/aaCJarVMr4

However, there were people who stood up for the 25-year-old and came in Russell’s support.
Russell, a worthy teammate of Hamilton
Keeping aside the recent results, George Russell has proved himself as a worthy teammate of Hamilton at Mercedes. Ever since Russell arrived at the Silver Arrows, he has been a constant threat to Hamilton.
From beating the 38-year-old by 35 points last year, a feat enjoyed only by Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button, to claiming the only win for the team, the 25-year-old proved himself as the better driver last season.
Furthermore, the 2016 F1 champion and Hamilton’s former teammate Rosberg believes that the young Brit is the ‘ultimate test’ for him at Mercedes. All in all, the season is still long and George Russell still has time to prove himself.
