The dangers of motorsports were witnessed once again after another driver became a victim of a high-speed crash. 18-year-old Dutch driver Dilano Van ‘t Hoff sadly passed away on July 1 after suffering fatal injuries as a result of his horrific crash in the Formula Regional European Championship at Spa on Saturday. Soon after this tragic news came out, Max Verstappen was one of the first to pay his condolences.
On reading Verstappen’s post, a member of Van ‘t Hoff’s family thanked the Red Bull driver for his condolences.
As for Dilano, he suffered his fatal accident following his multi-car collision at Spa. While the race was red flagged immediately after the crash, many wondered why such a decision was not taken before the accident as the visibility was very low.
Dilano’s family thanks Max Verstappen for his condolences
Soon after Max Verstappen heard of Dilano’s death, he took to his social media handle and paid his condolences to the 18-year-old’s family. His post read, “Extremely sad to hear the news about Dilano today. I want to send my condolences to Dilano’s family and loved ones. Rest in peace“.
On reading Verstappen’s post, a member of Van ‘t Hoff’s family replied, “You were his great example. Thanks Max“.
And it was not just Verstappen that offered his condolences as most of the F1 community offered theirs. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and the Red Bull F1 team were a few of the many that offered their condolences to Dilano’s family.
Verstappen slams decision to restart Formula Regional European Championship race
Soon after he gave his condolences to Dilano Van ‘t Hoff‘s family, Max Verstappen also slammed the decision to restart the Formula Regional European Championship race. Since the visibility was so low for the race, the Red Bull driver did not understand why they would even bother to restart the race.
“I saw some clips from the race. It was very wet. And yeah, I don’t think it was necessary at all to restart the race. Because you just know during a restart with so much water, so much rain, with the spray, you just don’t see anything! Guys in the backfield with nothing to lose, they go for it. And then you get incidents like this, which without a doubt should not happen,” explained Verstappen.
After voicing out his frustrations to restart the Formula Regional European Championship race, Verstappen added that now the authorities must do everything to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. He then concluded his remarks by expressing his hope that everyone involved in the sport is able to find a solution to prevent tragedies such as these.
