Fans Divided Over Lewis Hamilton’s Rumoured $76 Million Salary After Max Verstappen Signed Largest Contract in 2022
Recent reports have suggested that 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will get a new contract worth $690 Million for the next two years with Mercedes.
Further breakdown of his salary showed that this would mean a massive $76 Million a year for the Briton.
This huge amount of paycheck has been received with berserk reactions from the F1 world with some of the fans even calling it an ‘obscene amount.’
Last year in 2022, Hamilton’s rival Max Verstappen sealed the biggest deal in the history of F1 with a $53 Million per year contract after his first championship title.
Comparing that with Hamilton’s new rumoured contract, F1 fans have been divided over their opinion on the insane sums of money.

Fans compare Hamilton’s deal with Verstappen’s
On Twitter, one fan pointed out that while he is a Hamilton fan, the rumoured deal is too massive and there should be a cap on drivers’ salaries as well.
Meanwhile, another F1 fan pointed out that when Verstappen sealed his historic contract it was labelled as ‘he deserved it.’ So what is the difference now?
However you look at it, that is an obscene amount of money to earn per year, considering most don’t earn that in a lifetime. As much as I like Lewis and fully appreciate the talent that he is, there should be a cap on driver salaries too. #F1 https://t.co/mapZ2hskGe

Max Verstappen, as a 1 time world champion, signed the largest contract in F1 history last March. The prevailing reaction was that “he deserved it”. I wonder what is different now. https://t.co/DKmSupBqCC

The truth is he’s worth that much to merc. Not as a driver, or for the x.x secs per a lap he produces, but for brand image. He is Mr Mercedes, money can’t buy the level of exposure he brings. No driver comes close. No driver has ever come close to being so tied to a manufacture

Max is much younger and hasn’t reached his prime yet, Lewis literally got dominated by his rookie team mate all season leading up to this contract.

Of course when it’s max it’s all good. Whenever it has any thing to do with lewis, it’s always something.
