“I saw him a little bit like an older brother” – Charles Leclerc on his relationship with Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz
“I saw him a little bit like an older brother” – Charles Leclerc on his relationship with Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have formed very good chemistry at Ferrari, both on and off track. This is a welcome sign for Ferrari, which has seen grumbling teammates over the last decade or so.
Whoever the next driver is for Mercedes, I’m anticipating an intense Vettel-Leclerc style rivalry. Probably a second Silver War, who knows? 🤷🏻♂️

Leclerc is impressed with Sainz, especially with his consistency. When asked to compare with Sebastian Vettel, he spoke about “different approaches” but strong performers, otherwise.
“Carlos is a very very good teammate. Carlos is just very consistent. It’s different approaches but both of them were very very strong. Seb in his good days, I mean the last year was more difficult for Seb, but in his good days, he was just incredible and incredibly difficult to beat, if not impossible.
“With Seb, it was a little bit of a different relationship. I saw him a little bit like an older brother. He had so much experience that it was different, it was not the same type of competition that I had with Seb that I have with Carlos. Carlos and I are more or less at the same age, we are so competitive with everything.
“Seb had more experience, so he was a bit less competitive with everything. If I wanted to win something, he would basically let me win this thing and I would be happy, and he wouldn‘t care. With Carlos it‘s a little bit different, I can see he is so pissed off if I am beating him at anything, it can be the stupidest thing and he would be so angry. Same for me.”
