"I won't push my kids to race" - Max Verstappen reveals he would choose a different approach than his father

2-time world champion Max Verstappen credits his father Jos Verstappen for all the glory that he has achieved in Formula 1.

Verstappen was hyped as Red Bull’s child prodigy when he debuted in F1 and ever since then he has been on a spree of breaking records.

The Dutchman became an example that Dutch people can make it into F1 as well and he believes that once the foot is on the pedal, it doesn’t matter where you come from.

Speaaking to De Limburger, the 25-year-old said that he is hopeful that as he turns 31, there’s a new Dutch driver ready. Furthermore, Verstappen did not rule out the possibility of this ‘new one’ being his own child.

Max Verstappen will use different approach than his father

The Dutchman revealed that he is sure that at some point he does want to have kids. Verstappen knows that in training his kids he won’t use the same approach his father used with him.

“At the moment, I don’t see myself that and it’s easy total because I don’t have children,” he further added.

Jos came under a lot of fire for his harsh treatment towards Max during his childhood. His way of teaching and training has been categorised as ‘bad parenting.’

Defending his father’s approach towards him, the 2-time champion said that his father’s passion went a long way. He tuned engines, prepared karts and Max doesn’t see himself doing that for his kids.

“In any case, I’m not going to push my kids to race. They have to want it themselves,” Verstappen said.

The Dutchman wants to be there for his kids

There is a long to go before any of these scenarios turn into reality for the young Verstappen. But whenever it does he knows that he can’t combine his racing career with his child’s racing education.

He explained that you can’t drive in Formula 1 yourself if you want to get your child into F1. From the age of four, you have to start laying the foundations.

And therefore, he wants to be there himself.
