James Allison’s Mercedes Second Coming Sees Powerful “Weapon” That Strikes Fear Into F1 Rivals

Mercedes maestro James Allison has returned to his old position of Technical Director. While working in this role Allison helped the German giants to be a ferocious force in Formula 1. Now back at his old place, there are high chances the Mercedes engineer will use the powerful “weapon” that strikes fear into opponents back in the day.

Speaking about it during F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast back in 2019, the motorsport designer shared that ‘humility’ was the best weapon that they had in the years when Mercedes was the supreme force.

Allison further said in those days the team was not complacent, but instead, they preferred humility to look into things. In a world like F1, that’s so cutthroat, putting the feet on the ground to keep on performing was the Brackley-based team’s motto.

The renowned engineer then went on to explain how Mercedes were concerned about their performance despite winning four back-to-back races and 1-2 in Baku in 2019.

Mercedes swapped Mike Elliot’s position with Allison

As per recent reports, Allison and Mike Elliott decided to swap their position at Mercedes. Allison came back to the Technical Director’s post, whereas Elliott went back to the Chief Technical Officer’s post.

The duo swapped positions almost 20 months after Allison went to the post of CTO. The switch was prompted by Elliot who believed his capabilities weren’t enough for the role of the Technical Director in the team.

The move was made after the Brackley-based team failed to make a mark for successive seasons. Just like the W13, the W14 also failed to deliver and now struggling to a great extent against Red Bull.

Russell said Mercedes made enough improvement in recent times

In the latest development, George Russell said that his team has seen major success in terms of development in the last few days. This comes right after the team from Brackley is said to have taken the path in the ‘right direction.’

The former Williams driver said on this that big changes are coming. Even though it’s not possible to bring upgrades overnight, the team is trying its very best to bring them as soon as possible.

Having said that the German team is here to fight for the wins and championships, Russell added that they have developed way more in the last two-three weeks than they did in the entire winter window.
