Latest Footage of Lewis Hamilton’s $140,000,000 F1 Movie Raises Questions About Authenticity

The F1 world cannot seem to wait for Lewis Hamilton’s F1 movie now that the shooting for the same kicked off a few months back during the British GP. Promised to be a one-of-a-kind movie, it features Hollywood star Brad Pitt as one of the protagonists, leading to even more hype around it. Even though Apple purchased the rights for the Lewis Hamilton movie at a whopping $140,000,000, recent footage of a sequence being shot has led to quite a few questions regarding the authenticity of the movie.

The producers started shooting for the film during the British GP weekend, and it continued on during the Hungarian GP, and now, APX GP, the fictional F1 team around which the movie is based, made another appearance in Monza. The whole of F1 has played a very supportive role, allowing the production crew to shoot their sequence in between the races that go on throughout the weekend. The crew also set up their own garage in the paddock, making things even more realistic.

Unrealistic pit stop sequence in Lewis Hamilton movie has fans laughing at Ferrari

It is quite evident that the production crew is taking extreme measures to make the movie as technically correct as possible. However, even though efforts are being made to make the new movie as realistic as possible, recent footage suggests that the efforts aren’t being of any use. Both Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt have been adamant about making this realistic.

The video, which emerged on Twitter recently, shows a shooting sequence in which the APX GP pit crew are performing a pit stop on the car. However, the issue is that the crew never change the tire at all. They just pretend to replace the tires, but in reality, the new tire is just being passed on from one person to the other and the old tires remain attached to the car.

Fans were left bamboozled by this sequence and most of them were in disbelief. With the video emerging on the eve of Ferrari’s home race at Monza, the Italian team suddenly found themselves at the end of jokes with one Twitter user suggesting that the Scuderia might end up pulling a feat like this during the race.

Another user commented that the pit crew must have graduated from the Ferrari University.

Toto Wolff’s addition to the movie

Despite all the banter regarding the sequence, the reality is that the scene will possibly be heavily edited during the post production and everything will be put into place. It is highly improbable that a sequence like this will go into a movie that has so many F1 personnel involved to take care of the authenticity.

Apart from Lewis Hamilton acting as the executive producer and consultant, even the likes of Toto Wolff has been deeply involved in this project. Mercedes, along with the suggestion of Fred Vasseur, rebuilt an F2 car to make it look like an F1 model and used it for the movie.

Even though the production crew is using an F2 car for the movie, even that car is too extreme for a lay person to drive. This is where Wolff, who is the boss of Lewis Hamilton, stepped in and advised Brad Pitt to take up driving classes in France. The Austrian team principal has been a racing driver himself during his younger days and now at the age of 51, he surely knows the ins and outs of racing, which will only help to make the movie even more realistic.
