“Maybe even stronger than us”– Lando Norris is impressed by the battery power of engines made by Ferrari and Honda this year.
Lando Norris is delighted with his team’s decision of shifting to Mercedes’ this year, for him it is a big step in their power unit development that has made the car better.
But on the other hand, he is impressed by the work done by Ferrari and Honda (supplies engines to Red Bull and Alpha Tauri), and claims may be the batteries of these two manufacturers are better than those used by Mercedes.
“In terms of engine power, we have made a big step in 2021,” Norris states to AS. “However, Ferrari and Honda have also produced strong engines and with those engines the batteries are also strong. Maybe even stronger than with us.”
The electrical power is particularly important, as the MGU-K, for example, delivers up to 160 hp of additional power when deployed.
The battle with Ferrari is diluted?
McLaren from the beginning of the season has been battling against Ferrari for the P3 spot, but it seems Ferrari’s plans have shifted to 2022, so the Woking-based team has a clear path ahead.
Presently also, Mclaren is leading against Ferrari by 22 points, as the recent podium in Austria has given them another boost to make the most out of their potential.
“That’s what it’s all about in the end and then you see Red Bull and Mercedes pulling away, also with a huge consistency in tyre usage. That underlines how much progress we still need to make,” Norris concluded.
Norris has opened the season strongly, and in only nine races this season, he has managed to pick three podiums, taking his whole career tally to four podiums.
McLaren was so good in the last Grand Prix weekend that they even managed to pass ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes.
