“They both add 80 points" - Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto hints at long-term partnership between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz

“They both add 80 points” – Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto considers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to be the best pairing on the grid.

Ferrari have moved on from last season’s disappointment when they finished a disappointing P6 in the constructors’ championship.

This season, they are competing neck-to-neck with traditional rivals McLaren, in what is turning out to be a fine season for the neutrals.

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is pleased with the improvement, hailing his drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz as the best on the grid. He has also hinted at a long-term association for the pair, a template of the successful Ferrari of the early 2000s.

“At Ferrari we have the best line-up on the grid.

“Carlos is integrating very well and improving race by race. He is a great reference for Charles, he pushes him to the limit.

“They both add 80 points and that shows how important it is to have two drivers who add up for the Constructors’ Championship. These two will give us a lot of satisfaction in the future. ”

Carlos Sainz back in P6

Sainz is arguably one of the most consistent drivers on the grid currently, no wonder Ferrari snapped him up from McLaren. He has settled well at Ferrari, and now has more points than teammate Leclerc – 83 and 80 respectively – and is very happy with his debut season with Ferrari.

“I am happy with the way I am integrating myself into the team and with the speed I have had in the car since the first race.

“I always feel the rhythm on any circuit this year, although I do not think it is my strongest season in F1 because I have lost many points and opportunities in different situations.

“Good speed in qualifying and in the race, but for some reason some things didn’t go as planned. I haven’t had a full-on weekend as a Ferrari driver and I used to do that very well before.”
