“Why not? It could happen”- Max Verstappen thinks Sebastian Vettel will join this rival team in 2021
“Why not? It could happen” Max Verstappen thinks that Sebastian Vettel will join Mercedes by 2021, the German driver has announced his departure.
Sebastian Vettel announced his departure from Ferrari in June, but the German driver will still complete his season with the Italian outfit as the new season is set to kick-off with a revised calendar.
As soon as his exit was announced, he was rumoured to join several teams for the following season and Mercedes name was constantly ticking.
Even with the contrary statements from the Mercedes’ team members, the rumours are still strong, and Max Verstappen even though, not a part of Mercedes, feels that Vettel will join them in 2021.
Speaking to RTL, Verstappen said: “That was a surprise, but in the end, Sebastian and Ferrari thought the separation was best for everyone. I expected that he would drive for Ferrari for another year or two”.
“Why not? It could happen, of course. Vettel has achieved so much in the sport, it would be a pity if he didn’t continue driving in Formula 1” he further said.
So far, Vettel has not announced where will be his new whereabouts from the next season onwards, many even predicted that he may not even remain in F1, as the medium tier teams cannot afford his demands.
The only possible option considering all the aspects is probably Mercedes and Wolff has already said that if Vettel comes knocking the door, then Mercedes will surely consider, provided one of the two drivers leave the team.

As of now, Vettel is prepared to race for Ferrari in Austria, as it will be the first nation to host a Grand Prix this season, which was massively delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crises.
