Fernando Alonso’s F1 future has been the subject of a lot of discussion, especially with his commitments outside of F1(Le Mans and IndyCar).

The Spaniard has cut a frustrating figure in that MCL33, despite the ‘positive’ shift from Honda to Renault.

Alonso had assumed that the switch would result in a massive change in performance, one that will help McLaren contest the top 3 of F1.

However, that hasn’t quite transpired on the racetrack, as McLaren have struggled for performance all through.

And now Alonso has dropped a bomb, saying that he isn’t quite sure if he would continue in F1, especially with so many other options in motorsport.

“I don’t know if I will continue in F1. It’s a decision I’ll have to make, but nothing is decided or planned.” he said

“I do not want to end up with a bad taste in my mouth, in the sense of entering a time when I cannot give 100 per cent.

“I do not know if it will be this year or in several years but the most important thing is to enjoy now, and feel useful, contributing something extra to the car or the team.

“If I lose that, it will be difficult to continue. There are attractive challenges in the future: the triple crown, the Indy 500.

“When the summer is over and I contemplate all the possible options, I will make the best decision for the good of my team and the fans,” he added.

Alonso could be heading out of F1, leaving us with one of the most romantic stories in the history of our sport.
