Virgil Van Dijk on the other hand has smashed his way to the cover after a splendid performance with Liverpool, which saw the club from Merseyside lift the coveted Champions League trophy. In doing so, he has become the first centre-back to feature on the FIFA cover since Sol Campbell back in 2000. The PFA Player of the Year is also the first defender to be on the cover of the game since Roberto Carlos in 2003.

While speaking with SportsBible, the Liverpool star said:
“When I found out I was on the FIFA cover it was unreal.
“I’ve played FIFA since I was young and saw all these big players on the cover.
“It’s good to get recognition sometimes as a defender and I’m very proud. It’s not often that a defender comes on the cover and it’s something very special.”
Release date and platforms
