2022 was a year of mixed emotions for Ferrari. On one hand, they made a massive jump from fighting in the points to fighting for race wins once again. On the other hand, the optimism they showed at the start of the season, faded away due to numerous mistakes made by themselves.
They won two of the opening three races in 2022 which gave the Tifosi hope that it would be their year. Unfortunately, they started making several strategy errors and their power unit reliability also limited their charge up the field. Red Bull ended up making the most out of Ferrari’s slip up, and dominated the vast majority of the campaign.
Max Verstappen won his second consecutive World Championship whereas the Milton-Keynes-based outfit won their first Constructors’ Title since 2013. Ferrari finished P2 in the standings, with their drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finishing P2 and P5 respectively.
However, Ferrari’s early exit from the Title battle means that they had more time to focus on the development of their 2023 car.

Frederic Vasseur to lead Ferrari’s Title charge in 2023
Ferrari had to deal with a lot of off-track criticism last season. The strategy errors they made at certain races left everyone watching in shock and a lot of blame fell on team principal Mattia Binotto. On top of that, Binotto refused to name a number one driver in the team, which annoyed fans and the Ferrari management.

At the end of the 2022 campaign, it was revealed that the 53-year-old would leave the Maranello-based outfit at the end of the season. Former Alfa Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur will take his place as the Scuderia’s team principal from 2023 onwards.
Vasseur comes with a lot of experience in motorsports, but Binotto’s absence in the Ferrari HQ is going to be felt. He was one of the brightest minds in the sport’s history when it came to the technical aspect of F1 cars.
