Gareth Bale called Luka Modric the best player he has played with, ignoring five-times Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has been a subject of significant controversies of late.

His teammates, Marcelo and Thibaut Courtois spoke in length about Bale’s isolation in the Real Madrid dressing room, with the former revealing that the duo hardly converses verbally.

The Brazilian defender stated that the pair talks in gestures because Bale doesn’t know Spanish, while Courtois disclosed that the Welshman isn’t accustomed to the lifestyle in Spain.

And now, in an interview, Gareth Bale raised further eyebrows when he proclaimed that Luka Modric is the best player he played with.

Bale chooses Modric:

According to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, Gareth Bale stated that Luka Modric was the best he played with.

“Maybe Modric is the best I’ve ever played with,” said the Welshman. “Cristiano is an amazing player and I really enjoyed him,” he further added.

The speculations over the relationship between Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo persisted throughout their time at Real Madrid. However, Bale quashed the claims that the two didn’t enjoy a good relationship.

“Obviously the media try and hype up these problems which were never there. We got on really well,” Bale said.

“An incredible player and he is still going.”

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 games for Real Madrid across all competitions during his time at the Spanish side. He left Real Madrid last summer to join Juventus, where he continued on a similar goalscoring form.

The Portuguese forward has scored 24 goals in 36 games for the Italian champions across all competitions so far.

Bale, meanwhile, also talked about his rumoured move to Tottenham Hotspur. While he didn’t comment on his future, he insisted that he has huge respect for his former club.

“I appreciated everything Tottenham had done for me but I think they did understand at the time.

“When such a big club comes in for you like Real Madrid it is difficult to turn them down.

“Even though I was enjoying my time at Tottenham, loved the club and I still do, to have Real Madrid come for you, you’ll regret saying no.”
