Gautam Gambhir wants Ravichandran Ashwin to bat at number 4, doesn’t like Dhoni’s new look
Gautam Gambhir is part of Cricbuzz’s panel for the England-India series and has been coming up with some good insights about how India should use this tour as a platform to test themselves for the 2019 World Cup.
Gambhir pointed out one major mistake in Kohli and Shastri’s experimentation process, wherein they try and experiment with batsmen/bowlers.
The former Indian batsmen feels that the experimentation should be with respect to combinations and not individuals as such.
Gambhir is a little worried about India’s 6th bowling option and isn’t quite convinced with Raina being the saviour.
He wants a better 6th bowling option in place and thus has suggested a radical change, wherein maybe Ashwin can be used as that 6th bowling option, along with batting at number 4.
The Top 3 would remain the same, with Ashwin slotting in at 4, KL Rahul, Dhoni and Pandya at 5, 6, 7.
Gautam Bhimani has suggested that maybe even Krunal Pandya could be used as that 6th bowling option, something that even Gambhir agreed with.
Krunal Pandya could give Kohli 5-6 overs on a slow track and would be very handy down the order.
According to Gambhir, this team combination would help India get more balance and thus make them a potent side going into the 2019 World Cup.

Gambhir also spoke about how Dhoni’s new salt and pepper look makes him seem 5-10 years older than he actually is.
Dhoni has come up with this new look wherein he is seen sporting a white beard, something that hasn’t gone down well with Gambhir.
