Managers have now started coming out in unison to express their furore at the new format

As the Super League slowly starts becoming history and the ire of supporters starts dying down, the new Champions League format is coming under immense fire.

Revealing their plans for a 100 match Champions League in 2024, UEFA managed to go away scot free owing to the Super League taking all the headlines. However, already seething supporters have now redirected their anger to the Champions League.

UEFA’s willingness to give players and clubs a raw deal in their own money making scheming is getting a dressing down by supporters. Its not only supporters though who are livid with the governing council but the managers of clubs as well.

Klopp Berates UEFA

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s impending contest with Newcastle United, Jurgen Klopp talked about the Champions League. And the German was least impressed with UEFA’s proposal and their decision to throw clubs under the mat.

“The most positive thing is it didn’t happen, but what I’ve heard is it is not over yet – I don’t mean that the Super League could still happen, but there are discussions about other things,” Klopp said.

“You cannot just introduce new competitions. Yes, the Super League is off the table. Good. Very good. But the new Champions League – ‘oh great, let’s just do that’.

“UEFA showed it to me, they called me and gave one hour, the whole idea, and I said ‘I don’t like it because there are 10 games instead of six’. I have no idea where we shall put them.”

Klopp meanwhile batted for Liverpool’s owners, John Henry and FSG. Despite being put to the sword by the club’s supporters, Klopp was more amicable in his stance towards the American owners.

Liverpool will now turn their attention to the Premier League. The side is still aspiring to reach the top 4 of the league and redeem what has been a largely sorry season.
