Virat Kohli on his back injury

Virat Kohli on his back injury: The Indian captain didn’t seem to be much affected by a back niggle which happened at Melbourne.

During the third Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Melbourne, India captain Virat Kohli suffered a back niggle which was perhaps one of the reason behind him playing a tired shot off Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc in the first innings.

While Kohli has suffered from back problems in the past, the time leading to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 would be the least preferred time for the Indians players and fans to watch Kohli suffer due to an injury.

Speaking to the media ahead of the fourth Test starting from tomorrow at Sydney, Kohli said that getting niggles is ‘nothing new’ for cricketers. “I’ve had this [back] issue since 2011, it’s nothing new,” Kohli was quoted as saying to the media.

Arguably the fittest cricketer across the globe, Kohli’s fitness regime is a source of inspiration for other contemporary players. Kohli held his ‘physical effort’ as the reason behind managing his injury over the years.

“I’ve been able to manage it because of the physical effort I’ve put in over the past few years. And when you have a back that has these issues you can only maintain it that way,” Kohli said.

Sounding relax about the whole issue, the 30-year old cricketer mentioned that he gets fine in two to three days. “If the workload gets high it can get into a spasm, I mean you don’t necessarily get serious issues, you get fine in two or three days

“I’m not too concerned with it, you just have to manage it physically and stay ahead of the injury and I have been able to do it for now. I’m sure I’ll find other ways and more options to keep countering that,” he added.

Before concluding, Kohli put forward the fact that it is impossible to keep without niggles. “I mean, it’s impossible to keep going without niggles and I think it’s fine to have a few niggles here and there. You just need to be able to manage it,” he concluded.
