Irfan Pathan narrates incident when MS Dhoni lost his cool during warm-up match in 2006-07

Pathan narrates incident when MS Dhoni lost his cool: The former India pacer shared an incident of the captain cool getting angry.

There is no going into a safe house around the fact that veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for his calmness. While Dhoni did engage in an on-field conversation around a wrongly called no-ball in the last season of the Indian Premier League, you don’t generally associate anger with the 38-year old player.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who played a lot of his international cricket with and under Dhoni, recently shared an incident of the former captain losing his cool in the dressing room.

“It was in 2006-07. During the warm-up, we had a game where the right-handed batsman would bat with the left hand and vice-versa. After we finished the warm-up, we used to get into our practice,” Pathan was quoted as saying during Star Sports Cricket Connected.

It is worth mentioning that 127 out of Pathan’s 173 international appearances have come with Dhoni also in the Indian team. In 68 white-ball matches under Dhoni, the left-arm seamer had dismissed 82 batsmen at an average of 32.36, an economy rate of 6.06 and a strike rate of 32.

Further talking about the incident, Pathan narrated how Dhoni didn’t appreciate being wrongly given out in a warm-up and that the same saw him getting angry.

“So, during the warm-ups, there were two teams. Once MS Dhoni was given out which he didn’t think he was, he threw his bat and made a dash to the dressing room and came late for the practice. So, he does get angry,” Pathan said.

Pathan, who played for five teams during his decade-long IPL career, briefly played under Dhoni for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016. In what was his penultimate IPL season, Pathan bowled eight wicket-less overs in four matches before moving to Gujarat Lions for his last IPL season in 2017.
