When Italian midfielder Jorginho was not selected for his country’s impending FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, questions were raised about the move. Becoming an integral part of his county’s modus operandi, Jorginho has more often than not partaken in the side’s encounters across the last couple of years.
Jorginho Picks Up Injury
Also, with Thomas Tuchel not talking about an injury issue with the player, many had cast aspersions at the real reason Mancini let Jorginho out. However, the Italian coach has now gone onto affirm that it was indeed an injury issue which would keep Jorginho sidelined for his country.
“As regards to the midfielders, we are really in a bit of difficulty in the centre,” Roberto Mancini said ahead of his side’s qualification outings.
“We’re missing Jorginho, who wasn’t well. He’d taken a knock to the knee and he wasn’t fit to play in these games so we didn’t risk him.”
Jorginho who didn’t feature for Chelsea in the Champions League owing to an injury issue also failed to make an appearance for the club in the FA Cup. He wasn’t pictured in training on either Friday and Saturday, ensuing which he subsequently skipped the club’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United.
Chelsea will be aspiring to get Jorginho back on the pitch once the ongoing international break curtails. After being left in the cold by Lampard, Jorginho has once again managed to establish himself as a mainstay of his team’s gameplan with Tuchel entrusting the player.
Jorginho’s ball handling expertise and his ability to keep the ball ticking across the park has seen him work his way into Chelsea’s setup. The midfielder is crucial to ensuing Tuchel’s tactics are unfolded on the pitch with Jorginho thriving under the possession based style of football.
Tuchel Talks About Silva’s Injury
Chelsea are meanwhile also currently without the services of the injured Thiago Silva. Speaking about the CB, Tuchel refused to offer any sizeable update on the player’s return.
“It’s already too long but I know how hard the medical team is working, how reliable everyone is,” Tuchel said.
“So zero complaints. We are just wishing for him to feel 100% free, so we are taking our time.
“He is in individual sessions and hopefully, he can re-join the group during the international break and be ready for the decisive part of the season.”
