Khaleel Ahmed on Dhoni

Khaleel Ahmed on Dhoni: Khaleel Ahmed has recently revealed that Dhoni had asked him to life the trophy after Asia Cup victory.

Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for his knack of not taking credit on himself during victories. As a captain, Dhoni was often heard of praising the whole team during moments of glory.

Another regular sight during presentation ceremonies under Dhoni’s captaincy was him handing over the winning trophies to young members of the squad immediately after receiving it. In the team photos, Dhoni was usually seen at one corner with others relishing the trophies.

Although not a captain of the team now, Dhoni continues with his practice of handing over the trophy to the youngsters. Khaleel Ahmed, who made his ODI debut against Hong Kong during the recently concluded Asia Cup, revealed that he experienced the same when India won the Asia Cup against Bangladesh at Dubai.

In an interview with Times of India after returning back to India, Ahmed was quoted, “Dhoni bhai asked Rohit Sharma to let me hold the trophy on the dais. He gave me the trophy because I was the youngest member in the team and it was my debut series. It was a memorable experience for me. When Dhoni bhai and Rohit asked me to hold the winning trophy, I had no words.”

It is this nature of Dhoni to stay away from the limelight and push others into it is what has made him so special from a team’s point of view. Currently struggling for batting returns that he is usually known for, Dhoni still remains a vital cog in wheel for India’s limited-overs team.

Before flying to Australia for the T20I series next month, Dhoni will be seen playing the limited-overs leg of the West Indies series later this month. Below are some of the recent Twitter reactions on Dhoni:
