The Kolkata Knight Riders have finally managed to break their losing streak with a win against Mumbai Indians after losing 6 matches back to back. Now, they need to win both their remaining matches to get to 14 points and will then have a chance of making it to the playoffs if other results go their way.
This is an extremely important match as it stops the losing team from getting to 14 points and thereby, slimming their playoff hopes considerably. KKR would be desperate to be on the right side of the result.
KKR Predicted 11 vs KXIP
KKR Top-order
The KKR top order has seen some changes in the last few matches. It is expected that Chris Lynn would try and continue his Lynnsanity at the top. Shubman Gill proved his talent yet again the other night and he would be excited to deliver for his team this time on his home ground at Mohali. This is where he grew up playing cricket.
Andre Russell walked in at No. 3 in the last match. Expect that to happen if the first wicket falls after 8 or more overs. Otherwise, Robin Uthappa might come back at the No. 3 spot and try to contribute much more than earlier.
KKR Middle-order
Nitish Rana has contributed very significantly in a few matches. He should look to bat as well as he was batting in the first few matches. Dinesh Karthik scored a brilliant 97* in Kolkata and should look to once again lead from the front with the bat.
Andre Russell, the giant, will be a floater and KKR should look to make him play at least 8-10 overs irrespective of the number of wickets that have fallen. Sunil Narine can also smack a few balls out of the park and may be played in the middle overs. Rinku Singh would probably be a little unlucky to miss out.
KKR Bowlers
The KKR bowlers have not been up to the mark in this IPL. However, now is the time for them to start contributing and winning their team some matches. Harry Gurney has been good in a few matches and can mix up his deliveries well to confuse and rattle the batsmen.
The inclusion of young Sandeep Warrier from Kerala is a good move as he can bowl fast as well as bring in some variations. He should look to pick up a few wickets apart from keeping the run rate down.
Piyush Chawla has blown hot and cold in this IPL. However, it is tough to perform on a batting paradise like the Eden Garden. He should make full use of the big outfield at Mohali and pick up some crucial wickets. He has the ability to tempt batsmen to take him on and in the process, mistime one of the balls into the hands of the waiting fielders.
Sunil Narine should also be effective here. Expect Kuldeep Yadav to make a comeback into the KKR squad considering the help spinners will derive on this track.
