Lewis Hamilton’s reaction to Vettel’s 3 place grid penalty
Sebastian Vettel has been slapped with a 3 place grid penalty for the United States Grand Prix for not slowing down in time during the red flag period during FP1.
Charles Leclerc had spun off and had caused some gravel to come onto the track. Marshals were clearing the gravel off the track and thus a red flag was imposed.
Vettel did slow down but did so in 27 odd seconds, something that was deemed too unsafe by the stewards.
Similar incidents have happened in the previous races, with one such incident having happened with Ocon; and he too was given a 3 place grid penalty. Thus, the stewards have been constant with their judgements.

Vettel was visibly frustrated with the decision as he felt he had slowed down in time and that the red flag rules of F1 were wrong.
Will Buxton informed Hamilton about Vettel’s penalty, with the Brit first being surprised about how such a penalty was imposed.
He then took a dig at Vettel, that Mercedes knew how to do the basics right and would not make such silly mistakes.
Vettel can at max qualify in 4th place for the grand prix on Sunday. Hamilton though has conceded that the penalty wouldn’t make a difference to how he and Mercedes would approach the race weekend.
