Liverpool Vs Norwich City: Twitter reactions on the first match of the Premier League 2019/20 as Liverpool demolish the newly promoted side
Liverpool had a near perfect opening match against Norwich City. The Reds made the Canaries look like absolute misfits in the first half. They tore through them and took every chance they got and managed to find the net 4 times before the first break.
Commentator Peter Drury summed it best: “Liverpool ruthless, Norwich toothless, this is the difference between Championship and Champions League.”
A blemish though, through no fault of their own, was goalkeeper Alisson’s injury. The phenomenal keeper was instrumental to Liverpool’s last campaign and helped them to Champions League glory. However, in the 35th minute of the match, the Brazilian slipped and hurt his calf. There is still no word on the extent of the injury but fans are already expecting the worst.
Norwich fight back
Last season in the Championship, Norwich made a name for themselves for mounting incredible comebacks. Their campaign was defined by last minute winners and equalisers. Something similar was required to even stand a chance against a rampaging Liverpool and that is exactly what they did tonight.
Norwich pulled their socks in the second half and showed tremendous spirit to pull one back. That would remain their only goal. However, much more encouragingly, they didn’t let Liverpool score another goal and look threatening for most of the remaining 45 minutes. If only they’d play like this from the start.
They will still take a lot of heart from the improved showing. Especially considering, they bought the fight to the Champions of Europe. Liverpool need to learn from this match and fix the gaps in their game before they take on tougher opponents while Norwich will now feel that they belong in the grandest stage of English football.
