As rumours surrounding Luka Modric to Inter Milan grow stronger, the Croatian star finally speaks on the story.

Real Madrid had to lose Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane ahead of the 2018/19 season. With two main figures gone, the Whites were desperate to hold on to all their players but Mateo Kovacic followed the two central figures as he went on loan to Chelsea.

In a late series of events in the transfer window, their Croatian playmaker and one of the world’s best midfielder looked set to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Italy. Inter Milan was the club credited with interest in the World Cup’s Golden Ball winner with a few publications going so far to claiming that personal terms had been agreed.

Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez came out and said that any club looking to woo away Modric from Spain’s capital would have to pay his €750 million release clause in full. The Whites were then given some hope as that kind of amount coming from the San Siro outfit seemed quite unrealistic.

Real Madrid even reported Inter Milan to FIFA on pretext of illegal pursuit of their player. However, Italy’s major news channel La Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Sunday afternoon that Luka Modric was contacting Inter Milan over a potential move to the Serie A. Recently, there was a post on Instagram which said that Modric had contacted Internazionale over a move.

The Croatian has now taken to his official handle to deny all kinds of reports and all but commit his future to Real Madrid. “This is the most stupid thing in history!!!” wrote Modric in the comment section. A wage rise with an even higher release clause is expected to come the way of Luka Modric.

The Croat did not start any of the Whites’ three games against AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Getafe but did make cameo appearances against the clubs in second halves of every match. This is mainly due to lack of match fitness after a demanding World Cup, but Modric will now be set to have an indispensable role in the Real Madrid lineup.
