Former defender Rio Ferdinand has been in contact with Ed Woodward over the role of Director of Football at Man Utd.
Manchester United have failed to touch the levels of Sir Alex Ferguson’s success ever since the Scotsman’s retirement in 2013.
The club has spent a significant amount of cash on various stars and superstars. However, the investments have often been misplaced, and continue to be so.
Fans and pundits alike have called for Manchester United’s hierarchy to lead a major overhaul in the board. While the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward remains a controversial figure among the supporters, he will be the main decision-maker as United enters another transitional phase – this time, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And it has now been reported that Woodward has been in contact with former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand over the role of the director at the club.
Rio Ferdinand back at Old Trafford?
After Manchester United brought back club’s legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the manager of the side, Woodward eyes another club superstar.
Rio Ferdinand has been contacted for the role of director at Manchester United, according to Daily Mail. The report suggests that the reasoning behind the move seems to be Ferdinand’s approach in the world of football.
The English defender is a famous figure in England and is well connected with the football fraternity. However, Ferdinand has no prior experience in the role which could be a drawback if the move ultimately goes through.
It has also been reported that Darren Fletcher could be back in a new role for Manchester United as well. However, his exact role has not been revealed yet.
Ferdinand signed for Manchester United in 2002 and established himself as one of the top centre-backs in the world during his time at the club. He won multiple Premier League trophies with the side, and also played a key role in Manchester United’s Champions League triumph in 2008.

Rio Ferdinand being linked with the role of Man Utd Sporting Director.
Good to see the club have moved on from requirements like ‘Must have similar experience at Molde and Cardiff’ to just having no experience whatsoever in a role.
