Man Utd news: Gary Neville advices Manchester United to solve their full-back problems by following Manchester City formula.
Ex-Manchester United legend tells Manchester United to solve their full-back problems by spending big in market this summer like Manchester City.
Manchester United are facing crisis in defense, especially in both full-back positions. The Red Devils are forced to convert players of other positions into these roles. Only, Luke Shaw, who is a natural full-back has shown decent exhibits this season.
The fans are criticizing Ashley young for his poor performances. Whereas, Antonio Valencia, who was earlier playing as a right full-back in previous seasons has been on the bench or out of the squad for majority of season. Adding further, Valencia is on his way out of Old Trafford this summer. On the other hand, same is the case with Matteo Darmian who hasn’t been impressive this season.
Henceforth, Manchester United will look for a right-back in market this summer and the former United player thinks that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should spend big this summer.
“I don’t know why United have had such problems at right-back. You can’t keep signing full-backs for £15m. Over the past few years they’ve spent nearly £100m on five full-backs,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“City spent big on Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy. Maybe United would be better buying the correct full-back first time up for £40m or £50m and have them for seven years, because it’s cost them that much in the end trying different full-backs.”
The defensive adversity costed Manchester United several defeats in big games this season as they are struggling to secure a top 4 berth in league. Presently, the most successful club in Premier League is at the 6th spot of the table. Meanwhile, their fiercest rivals are competing for the title.
