Man Utd Transfer News: Napoli respond to Manchester United's €110 million bid for Kalidou Koulibaly

Napoli have turned down €110 million bid from Manchester United for their defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Manchester United’s interest on the Senegalese International Kalidou Koulibaly is not private. The Red Devils have made the Napoli centre-back as number one target in the summer transfer window, but a move could collapse because of the lack of Champions League.

Despite the failure to qualify, Solskjaer supposedly bid €110 million for Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Italian publication, Gazzetta Dello Sport. Napoli’s manager Carlo Ancelotti has vowed to keep him at any cost, and does not want to sell him irrespective of the arrival offer.

Aurelio De Laurentiis, Chairman of Napoli, has responded quickly by turning that bid huge down, which would have made him the world’s most expensive defender. The 27-year-old does not have release clause this summer which automatically makes life tougher for Manchester United to lure him away from San Paolo Stadium.

The report added on the termination clause would come into consideration only in 2020, but that amount will mount to €150 million. If the Red Devils are to wait for a year, the former Genk defender would turn 29 before the kick start of the 2020 English top-flight season.

He certainly looks unattainable this summer after Carlo Ancelotti spoke about his desire to keep him at Naples. If Solskjaer decides to bid over 150 million, Manchester United would stand a chance to lure him. However, De Laurentiis is too tenacious and it would take some convincing to bid for him again.

With Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, and Eric Bailly in the ranks, the Red Devils will want their bolster the backline irrespective of the competition they are competing in. As an alternative, Solskjaer was having his eye on Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar. But, the Slovenian has already committed his long-term future to the Italian outfit.

Paul Pogba looks unlikely to stay beyond the summer as Real Madrid look at the prospect of a transfer. David De Gea’s contract comes to a conclusion in 2020 and the Red Devils’ offer worth 35 million has been turned down by Ajax for the shot-stopper Andre Onana.

Here’s how Twitter reacted..

What’s next?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be backed heavily this summer. The Red Devils will have more than 150 million to spend, but the transfers would depend on the outgoings because of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) which can come back to haunt the club.
