Manchester United has confirmed the signing of Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto. The defender has joined the club on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. The reported fee for the transfer is said to be £17.4m.

The defender has played seven games for FC Porto so far, including the Champions League RO16 game against Liverpool.

The right-back can be the potential successor to current captain Antonio Valencia.

Talking to MUTV after his signing, he insisted that he is ready for the challenge. “I’m very excited. For me, it is one of the biggest leagues in the world and I’m excited to play there,” said Dalot.

“Just expect that I will give everything for this club, for this shirt and, hopefully, help the club to win. That’s the most important thing,” Diogo Dalot added.

Manchester United have had problems with their defence throughout the season. While their performances against the top-5 clubs were formidable, they dropped crucial points against lower-ranked clubs due to sloppy defending.

In his limited playing time at Porto, Dalot played a right-back in the side. However, he can also play as a midfielder.
