Manolas to Manchester United

Kostas Manolas is a target for the Red Devils, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a hunt for the permanent hot seat at Old Trafford when his contract with the Red Devils ends after this season. The Norwegian is said to be preparing a bid for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas who has a release clause of 32 million pounds in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outfit are currently 10th in the Serie A table, but the competition for the Champions League place is heating up as they are just four points off the fourth-placed team. Roma’s director Monchi has been heavily criticised for the outcome of the club following the sales of several stars during his reign.

The Greek International is a fan favourite at the Stadio Olympico after his winner which knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League last term. If the Spaniard decides to cash him on to Manchester United, Roma will struggle even more as the 27-year-old has been an integral part of the system which has been challenging for a place in the Champions League year in year out and was a huge success en route to Champions League semifinals last season.

It is understood that the Red Devils scouts were in attendance when Roma were beaten by Juventus in a tight contest which was separated by only one goal last week. Besides, the 27-year-old has hired Mino Raiola has his new agent, who also handles Paul Pogba’s accounts.

Kostas Manolas is a product from a small club in Greek named Thrasyvoulos, where he spent one year as a rookie. Spotting his incredible talent, he was lured by AEK Athens. He made 85 appearances in three years and won the Greek Cup in 2011.

An offer from Olympiacos made up Manolas’ mind to join the Greek heavyweights. He was eye-catchy and made 73 appearances in just two years at Karaiskakis Stadium which was enough for Roma to put the trust on the defender.

His next destination turned out to be Rome in 2013, and has played under Rudi Garcia, Lucian Spalleti, and Eusebio Di Francesco. During this short span of time, he took out the field 190 times for the Italian outfit. Even though he was not able to lift any trophy at Rome, he has put pen to paper until 2023.

Manchester United are also clearly lacking quality at the backline with the likes of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones reportedly looking to leave the club. If Manolas signs for the England club, it would be fantastic recoup for the Red Devils who look to bolster the squad in the summer transfer window as they try and rebuild the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be eyeing his second win as the Manchester United boss against Huddersfield on boxing day at Old Trafford.
