Manchester United Set To Complete The Signing Of Nemanja Matic

Jose Mourinho will be a happy man ahead of Nemanja Matic’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford this week. The former Benfica man was signed by Jose when the Portuguese returned to the helm of Chelsea in January 2014.

Matic was an integral part of the Chelsea team that won the Premier League under Jose in the 2014-15 season. But he is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, as Conte somehow did not fancy him at all.

The arrival of Kante as well as the addition of Monaco’s Bakayoko has made Matic dispensable for Conte, which is why Jose has swooped in for his former midfield general.

The Matic-Fabregas partnership was the engine room that powered Jose to his last Premier League title, and now he is looking to replicate that at Old Trafford. At 28, Matic is bought in to replace Micheal Carrick.

The Englishman, who has served United wonderfully over the last decade, is on his last legs which is why the arrival of Matic makes sense. Agreed, Matic was awful in Jose’s last season at Chelsea, but then again we can say that about almost every player in that Chelsea squad.

But Jose still has faith in Matic, which is why he is willing to pay 40 Million for the defensive mid fielder. Jose will look to build his team around a Matic-Pogba-Herrera combination, which should provide a solid platform going forward.

Matic would be United’s second signing, and will surely not be the last one. Jose will be looking to bring in at least attacking player this summer. And with the likes of James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata being mentioned, United fans should be hopeful of atleast one more major signing.
