Manchester United will aim to return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon. We take a look at the Man Utd predicted lineup vs Chelsea.
Solskjaer’s men haven’t had a good time ever since the win against PSG in the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16.
The performances went downhill rather speedily ever since, as the side conceded defeats in seven of their 9 games across all competitions since. Manchester United were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and the Champions League and are currently at sixth position in the Premier League.
However, the side is still in the race for the top-4 as their rivals, Chelsea and Arsenal have also dropped significant points since. This week, while Chelsea were held to a draw by Burnley, Wolves defeated Arsenal 3-1 at the Molineux Stadium.
Manchester United will aim to take advantage of these slip-ups as the side takes on Maurizio Sarri’s men in a significant Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Man Utd predicted lineup vs Chelsea:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea
The Spaniard has been going through a rough patch since the last few weeks. In the mid-week game against Manchester City, De Gea committed yet another error as the side conceded a 2-0 defeat.
However, the goalkeeper has shown his class for several years at Old Trafford and Solskjaer was vocal on his support for the player in the pre-match conference. The Norwegian manager confirmed that he wouldn’t rest De Gea, insisting that the goalkeeper will step up and come back stronger.
Defence: Dalot, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw
Diogo Dalot could return to the side in a four-man defence, after Solskjaer played three at the back against Manchester City.
Victor Lindelof has been one of the most consistent performers for Manchester United this season, and Luke Shaw has had a decent outing in his first start after the two-match ban against City.
While Smalling has been inconsistent, a lack of options on the bench will force the manager to partner Lindelof with the Englishman.
Midfield: McTominay, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba
Solskjaer stated in the press conference that Ander Herrera is set to return to action against Chelsea and we expect the Spaniard to start in this game. There have been issues regarding the midfielder’s situation at the club, and the speculations over his move to PSG have raised tensions among the Old Trafford faithful.
However, Ander Herrera would aim to put the transfer talks behind him and lead Manchester United back to winning ways against Chelsea. Scott McTominay stepped up brilliantly for the side in the last few games and could return to the lineup as well.
Forward: Lukaku, Rashford, Martial
We believe that it’s growing clearer that Solskjaer doesn’t trust Alexis Sanchez, as he brought the Chilean with only 10 minutes remaining in the game against Manchester City. Moreover, the players often ignored Alexis Sanchez on the field as the attacker had only one touch throughout his playing time.
Jesse Lingard’s poor display could lead Solskjaer to drop him for Anthony Martial, who will start on the left. With Lukaku in the middle and Rashford on the wing, Manchester United would aim to infuse pace in their attack.
