Matthijs De Ligt: European giants set to beat Barcelona for Ajax Skipper

Paris Saint Germain are set to be closing in on Matthijs De Ligt.

Matthijs De Ligt claimed that he would enjoy his vacation and take a call on his future. The Ajax Skipper has been wanted by some of the top European clubs including Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, Juventus, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich.

Reports stated that the Bavarians backed out this race because of the ludicrous money involved in this transfer. Barcelona have done the same, but they have already agreed a deal with the player in March, but agent Mino Raiola wants heavy compensation for the transfer to go through.

Manchester United, Juventus, and Paris Saint Germain are desperate to land him and are prepared to meet his demands. However, Paris Saint Germain are the frontrunners currently, according to the reliable Di Marzio.

It is understood that the negotiations are in advanced stages and the deal could be completed any time. Agent Mino Raiola has met PSG’s sporting director Antero on Tuesday. Once Antero returns from holidays, the deal will be closed soon.

The report also added that only Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are the only sides negotiating for the player, whilst others have distanced themselves from this transfer. However, Paris Saint Germain are the current leaders for this signature out of the two.

Ajax are demanding no lesser than €70 million for the 19-year-old, but hold no intentions for an auction. De Ligt captained the Dutch side to domestic double and Champions League Semifinal last season. He was also the mainstay in the defence for the Netherlands – who finished second in the UEFA Nations League.

It will come as a huge blow for the Blaugrana, who saw him as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique in the backline.

What’s next?

Matthijs De Ligt is yet to make up his mind on his destination, although the driving seat is occupied by Paris Saint Germain currently.
