Michael Jordan’s 1997 NBA in Paris Visit Involved 27,000 Fans and a Hilarious Eiffel Tower Photograph
NBA in Paris is back but could it be as iconic as when MJ was there? The last time the Bulls’ traveling circus graced the City of Light, one iconic superstar was stealing all the attention. Michael Jordan and the Bulls had come visiting and during his time, he even faced off against, Paris Saint Germain!
Well, not Kylian Mbappe’s current team, but the PSG Basketball team. So, the story takes us all the way back to 1997. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were in their prime then.
And what better opportunity to showcase the NBA’s power and standing than to visit Paris? Michael and the Bulls in Paris were a spectacle. Parisians loved the fact that the world’s greatest player graced their city. And to showcase their basketball? Even Better.
It wasn’t the first time that Michael made his way to Paris, however, it was the first time he had come since he became a global phenomenon.

Michael Jordan was hounded by people during Chicago Bulls’ last NBA in Paris game
Michael Jordan’s reputation was beyond excellent before his visit. L’idole, he was called by French Press. And during the visit, he was hounded by everyone, 1000 journalists, almost all of whom were wearing Bulls gear.
Jordan was so big, even the French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin came to watch his game. And so did 27,000 fans.
People in Europe were not so big on basketball. But the name Michael Jordan was big enough for everyone to want to come and watch him.
The Bulls didn’t even feature their other stars, both Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen were injured.
Michael Jordan led the Bulls to a comfortable victory, despite no all-stars
The Bulls came short-handed, but Jordan was no slouch. His Chicago Bulls beat PSG, 89-82.
The saddest part of the whole ordeal was that Jordan didn’t dunk. Not even once. All due to the fact that he was nursing a toe injury.
So instead, he put up a scoring clinic. And without him, the Bulls even came close to losing. The French went on a 12-2 run when he sat out. Michael was really carrying the load.
As we beckon another NBA in Paris game, we hope the Bulls vs Pistons game can live up to the expectations.
