MS Dhoni explains what he told Bravo during final over
MS Dhoni was a relaxed man at the post match presentation today, as CSK romped to yet another win, this time riding on a new batsmen’s heroics.
Ambati Rayudu rose to the occasion today, being forced into that middle order in lieu of du Plessis being drafted into the XI, but Rayudu was not at all fussy about it, stringing together a brilliant partnership with Raina and getting CSK to a respectable total.
The chase looked steep, especially with Dhawan out, but Williamson was in a different zone today, timing the ball beautifully and taking the match right down to the wire.
However, after he was dismissed the chase looked out of hand, but Rashid Khan made it interesting in the end with those 2 consecutive sixes.
But when you have DJ Bravo standing between you and that 19 runs off the last over, you seldom find yourself past the finish line. And that was exactly how things transpired.
Bravo was put under pressure though, thanks to some brilliant striking by Rashid. Dhoni was then quick to go up to Bravo and help him change his plans a little.
In the post match presentation, Dhoni explained what he told Bravo, and how it was important for him to give some advice to even the best death bowler in the world.
“Won’t say what we were talking about (chat with Bravo before the last ball), wanted him to change his plan. At times even the best – Bravo – need a bit of advice. That’s what they’re paid for. What’s important is you make mistakes and learn.
“In league stages you can afford to do that. Where we are at this point, a few mistakes won’t dent us. Bowlers will learn out of it. Wickets have gone better. If you compare it to the first few editions of the IPL, these wickets are very good batting surfaces.” he said.
