MS Dhoni song: Dwayne Bravo doing 'something special' for CSK captain

MS Dhoni song: In a first-ever attempt, the West Indian all-rounder is preparing a song for “his brudah from anodah muddah”.

Veteran West Indies and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has time and again eulogized CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bravo, 36, has joined Super Kings in 2011 and has been playing for them since then apart from 2016 when the franchise was suspended from the IPL.

In a recent interaction with Harsha Bhogle for ‘Cricbuzz in Conversation with Dwayne Bravo’ chat show, Bravo opened up on how Dhoni had supported him in times when even West Indian selectors had written him off.

“I’ve asked myself many times, why someone like MS [Dhoni] has so much faith in me. My own board and selectors don’t have the same faith. But Mahi respects my talent and the way I play the game. That means a lot to me because this is arguably the greatest captain in the world and he has so much faith,” Bravo was quoted as saying.

It was nearly a fortnight ago that Bravo had appeared in an Instagram live session with Super Kings. In addition to hailing Dhoni, Bravo had also announced a song on the 38-year old cricketer who he referred to as “his brudah from anodah muddah”.

Being asked about the same, Bravo disclosed that he is still in the process of completing the song. Bravo further mentioned that he wishes to give a tribute to Dhoni who is nearing the end of his career via a special song.

“The Mahi song… I haven’t completed the entire track as yet. I still want to work on the music and some other lyrics I want to put in there. I was thinking…there is not anyone who has done a song as a tribute to one particular athlete. I was coming up with ideas.

“I want to do something for him. He is coming to the end of his career. He had a great career. He had a great impact on my personal career and also so many other cricketers. I wanted to do something special for him. I named the song No. 7. It’s his number. It’s a special number for him,” Bravo said.

In 88 T20s for Chennai, Bravo has picked 104 wickets at an average of 23.13, an economy rate of 8.37 and a strike rate of 16.57. With the bat in hand, Bravo has scored 927 runs at an average of 26.49 and a strike rate of 135.53 including two half-centuries.
