“We’ve Paid a Lot of Money in Fines” – Bubba Wallace Makes Big Claim About NASCAR’s Intent After $250,000 Penalty to Tony Stewart’s Team

One of the biggest talking points recently in NASCAR was the mammoth penalty, which the governing body handed to Stewart Haas Racing after they found an illegal part in the underwing of Chase Briscoe’s racecar. This penalty, which cost Tony Stewart’s team a quarter of a million dollars and 120 points, is easily one of the biggest in the sport’s history. But if Bubba Wallace is to be believed, this penalty, along with one other recent incident, is clearly pointing toward how NASCAR wants to proceed with offenders.

The other incident, in this case, was the suspension of Chase Elliott, who was given a one-race suspension after he intentionally wrecked Denny Hamlin during the Coca-Cola 600.

Bubba Wallace thinks NASCAR isn’t “messing around” with offenders

After NASCAR handed SHR a penalty of $250,000 and 120 regular-season points, Bubba Wallace was asked about his take on this subject. In his response, the #23 driver pointed towards the bigger picture as he emphasized NASCAR’s stance when it comes to dealing with those who tamper with the Next Gen car.

“We’ve paid a lot of money in fines. We, as the Cup Series, have paid a lot of fines this year, and they’re not messing around,” he said ahead of the Cup race at WWT Raceway.

One other thing Wallace also touched upon was the other penalty of Chase Elliott, which has been a big matter of discussion in NASCAR circles as of late.

Wallace appreciates NASCAR’s consistency with Chase Elliott’s suspension

Chase Elliott’s Charlotte incident with Denny Hamlin was one which in some ways was pretty similar to what we saw in Las Vegas last year when Bubba Wallace’s e right rear-hooked Kyle Larson.

This also led to a similar penalty for the 23XI Racing driver then as the Hendrick Motorsports driver received now, something which Wallace appreciated.

“They’re keeping it consistent. That’s what we ask for a lot of the time. We give them a lot of grief for being inconsistent, so to me that was the same thing as what happened in Vegas, me and the #5 car and he’s taking a week off for it,” Wallace said.

But Wallace’s point about NASCAR’s consistency was before the race at WWT Raceway, which is interesting because during the race there was an incident between Austin Cindric and Austin Dillon, which led to demands of disciplinary action to be taken against the young Penske driver.

So the question is, will NASCAR remain consistent now as well?
