Stephen Curry Drops Retirement Update, Talks Future Plans
Stephen Curry, who recently celebrated his 35th birthday, is fresh off of a title and a Finals MVP that he won last year. Nearing the end of his prime, Curry appears to be contemplating his post-retirement plans already. In a candid interview with The Today Show, he recently shared his post-retirement plans in detail. It seems like Curry may follow in the footsteps of soccer player Gareth Bale and explore opportunities in golf.
By the time his current contract with the Warriors ends, Curry will be 38 years old. It is uncertain whether the Dubs guard would want to extend his career any further. If he does decide to hang up his NBA boots, we might start to see the four-time NBA Champion more regularly on the greens.
Stephen Curry has an extreme fascination for the sport of golf. In the recently held summer celebrity golf tournament, Curry made history with a 152-yard hole-in-one play. This made him the first NBA athlete in 23 years to win the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe.
Addressing his future retirement, Curry even joked about becoming an amateur swing coach for golf. He said:
“You do start thinking about it [retirement] and thoughts do creep in of, you know, what that timeline really looks like. And I’m doing all those things to give myself a chance to be successful. But you know, the ball is going to stop bouncing at some point. And something is anytime soon.”
Curry’s game is designed to last a long time because he relies less on athleticism and more on skill. However, his career will still have an expiry date sooner or later.
Tom Brady had passed on incredible retirement advice for Steph
Even at 35, Stephen Curry seems like an unstoppable force in the NBA. His jump shots and 3-pointers are still on point, and his movement on the court is still pretty fast-paced. However, a piece of advice from NFL legend Tom Brady is what Steph stands behind in his retirement plans.
Brady told Curry that he should retire only when he felt his body was slowing down. Brady retired at 44 after once coming out of his retirement within two months of announcing.
For the best stars of their field, staying without the sport is impossible when your body yearns for more. Given Steph’s incredible fitness and physique, we might be lucky enough to see Curry play for a time longer than his current contract’s length.
