3 Years Away From $215,353,664 Contract Completion, Stephen Curry Drops Retirement Update, Talks Future Plans

Stephen Curry, who recently celebrated his 35th birthday, has undeniably secured his place among basketball legends. The esteemed player of the Golden State Warriors played a pivotal role in leading his team to a championship victory last year, earning his first Finals MVP title in the process. Additionally, in the previous season, he guided his team to the second round of the Playoffs, though they were ultimately defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers. As he enters the final three years of his $215,353,664 contract, Stephen Curry appears to be contemplating his retirement. In a candid interview with The Today Show, he shared his post-retirement plans in detail. It seems that Curry may follow in the footsteps of soccer player Gareth Bale and explore opportunities in golf.

By the time his current contract with the Warriors comes to an end, Curry will be 38 years old, making it a crucial moment for him to potentially hang up his boots. The interview shed light on his future plans and what lies ahead after his illustrious basketball career.

Stephen Curry plans for his future following his contract completion with the Golden State Warriors

Stephen Curry has already started planning his next move following his basketball career. Perhaps, we might even see Chef Curry playing for the final time following the expiration of his current contract. Curry signed a five-year, $215,353,664 contract, earning him around $51,900,000 in the upcoming season. This makes him the highest-paid star in the NBA, close behind Kevin Durant’s $47,600,000 annual salary next season.

Stephen Curry has an extreme niche toward golf, similar to Michael Jordan. In the recently held summer celebrity golf tournament, Curry made history with a 152-yard hole-in-one play. This made him the first athlete in 23 years to win the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. Contemplating his retirement, Curry even joked about becoming an amateur swing coach for golf after retirement. Adding further to his retirement comment, he said:

“You do start thinking about it [retirement] and thoughts do creep in of, you know, what that timeline really looks like. And I’m doing all those things to give myself a chance to be successful. But you know, the ball is going to stop bouncing at some point. And something is anytime soon.”

Steph had promised his mother to complete his diploma when he decided to step for the NBA Draft a year early at Davidson. For this, Curry took classes in between his games, finally earning his degree in sociology in 2022.

It would not be surprising to see Steph Curry pursuing golf professionally after his basketball career. Several other athletes, including soccer star Gareth Bale, have pursued their love for golf and even played in PGA-level tournaments. Given Steph’s talents in another game beyond basketball, there would be no doubt he might also want to keep excelling in a new field.

NFL GOAT Tom Brady had passed on incredible retirement advice for Steph

Even at 35, Stephen Curry seemed like an unstoppable force in the NBA. His jump shots and 3-pointers were still on point, giving his team a much-needed boost during the regular season and the playoffs. However, a piece of advice from NFL legend Tom Brady is what Stephen stands by in his retirement plans.

Brady told Curry that he should retire only when he felt his body was slowing down. Brady retired at 44, after once coming out of his retirement within two months of announcing. For the best stars of their field, staying without the sport is impossible when your body yearns for more. Given Steph’s incredible fitness and physique, we might be lucky enough to see Curry play for a time longer than his current contract length.
