Kyrie Irving is arguably the most polarising superstar in NBA history. The uber-talented point guard with handles for days is one of the most enjoyable players to watch on his day. However, with Kyrie, there has always been an asterisk surrounding his conduct and demeanor from day one.

Conflict and drama have been constant accompaniments to the entree that Kyrie is. The Cavaliers, the Celtics, and the Nets have all gone through the vicious Irving experience.
However, despite all the hue and cry around Irving’s stance on vaccination and the shape of the earth, his charitable efforts speak for themselves. Over the years, Irving has displayed his philanthropic qualities on multiple instances and has been touted as a people’s champion on various occasions.
And recently, Uncle Drew rose up to the occasion and served the people once again. On December 30th, a fire had broken out in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and an entire apartment building and surrounding area were burnt to the ground.
A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to aid the affected, and one donation stood out: Kyrie Irving’s.

In this instance, Irving’s donation amounted to more than half of the total amount raised. Of the $39,572 raised by the campaign, the Nets star’s contribution amounted to $22,000.
One of the residents, Alex Struble revealed how he was “floored” by the amount raised by the GoFundMe campaign. According to Struble, they expected to raise only a figure of around $1000, only to find just Kyrie’s donation to be more than 20 times that figure.
The amount raised may not suffice to recoup the losses, especially to the property. However, the near $40,000 amount raised shall definitely go a long way to help the affected find their feet again.
Kyrie’s generosity only adds to the intrigue and mystery surrounding the Nets’ point guard. While the NBA community sees his wizardry on the court on a daily basis, it would appear his real magical touch extends way beyond the three-point line.
This was only Irving’s most recent charitable donation among a series of them.
While the $22,000 donation appears significant, it forms only a fraction of Kyrie’s charitable ventures over time. According to Nets Daily, Irving’s donations merely on the GoFundMe portal go north of $390,000.
With the star not being one to make announcements about his charity, this figure might be a conservative estimate. The anonymity of Irving’s donations highlights how they aren’t PR moves by the controversial star.
Irving has also managed to distance himself from controversy at least temporarily. And not coincidentally, that has also resulted in stability and success in Brooklyn. Is this the Kyrie redemption tour, and is the NBA ready for it?
