"Banana boat reunion in LA?": Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony to join forces with LeBron James on the Lakers if Suns lose NBA Finals, according to NBA insider

NBA Insider at Bally Sports Network  Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently spoke about the potential of the banana boat teaming up in LA.

Point guard veteran Chris Paul clinched his first-ever NBA Finals berth this year. The 36-year old had a roller-coaster post-season, with injuries and the league’s health and safety protocols causing him to miss a couple of games.

Despite this, the 11x All-Star had some phenomenal performances. CP3 has averaged 18.8 PPG, 8.7 APG, and 1.2 SPG on a 49.1% shooting from the field and 44.4% shooting from the 3-point line so far in the playoffs. However, the veteran had some poor performances in the Finals, which resulted in the Suns blowing the initial 2-0 lead they had in the series.

CP3 signed a 4-year contract worth $159M in the 2018-19 season. Though the contract ends in 2022, Paul has a player option entering this off-season.

Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony has turned out to be one of the great role players in the league, making key contributions for the Blazers during clutch time. The former scoring champion has accepted the role of coming off the bench gracefully.

The 10x NBA All-Star signed a 1 year $2M contract with the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2020-21 season. This coming off-season, Melo would be a free agent.

Brandon Robinson states down reasons as to why CP3 and Melo should join forces with LeBron in LA.

The odds that the banana boat might team up in LA

According to Robinson, if CP3 is unable to win a title this year. The veteran should definitely exercise his player option this year.

The 4x assists leader should join the LA Lakers in pursuit of a championship. This would be a win-win situation for both parties. The Lakers have been wanting to get rid of their current point guard Dennis Schroder for a while now.

The arrival of Paul would make the Lakers a complete team on the quest for a championship. This would be quite ironic considering how Paul was going to be a part of the team in 2011. However, the trade was later vetoed by then-commissioner David Stern.

Carmelo Anthony, who would be a free agent this year, could clearly decide where he wants to go but the Lakers would be an ideal destination for the 10x All-Star.

Melo was about to sign with the Lakers in 2019, as many rumors suggested but LeBron’s groin injury and his first season with the franchise were some of the major reasons why Melo couldn’t land in LA.

Melo would be a great recruit for the Lakers, who lack shooting on their roster. The veteran has averaged 23 PPG on a 44.7% shooting from the field in his 18 seasons career and is an impressive 3-point shooter as well.

The 2021-22 NBA season would be the ultimate opportunity for the banana boat to team up, especially considering the age of all the superstars in concern.

The banana boat teaming up would be box office for the LA Lakers and would skyrocket the television ratings of the NBA as well.
