"Charles Barkley, You Did Worse at 23": Gilbert Arenas Defends Ja Morant, Advises Grizzlies Star to Focus on Growth

Gilbert Arenas believes that it’s time for the likes of Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal to be replaced from the legacy media establishment.

With the advent of the podcasts and YouTube shows, more and more people are looking at these avenues for sports analysis. Podcasters like Gilbert Arenaas, Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, Theo Pinson and others are gaining widespread attention.

They have a voice and a following because of their closer proximity to the league. Unlike the Inside crew, many of these people on the podcast networks have working relationships with NBA players. This makes their takes closer to the reality.

Many of them also tend to be irritated with the irrational takes defended by the older generation. Arenas, in particular, has a problem with the disconnect between the networks and the players.

Gilbert Arenas doles out advice to Ja Morant, lashes out at older generation

Gilbert Arenas was recently a guest on the I AM ATHLETE YouTube show. The former All-NBA player began his interview with some statements about Ja Morant’s gun situation last month.

Arenas initially lambasted the likes of Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal for putting Morant on blast. He believes that their own actions put them in no position to criticize Ja:

“When you look at the NFL Network, you look at ESPN, you know those guys are 3 generations removed. With us, it’s Charles Barkley, Kenny, Shaq. They should already have been replaced, you just signed Charles Barkley too, he’s 3 generations removed.”

“You’re so removed that you don’t realize that when you were 23, you did worse. You didn’t realize dude, that when you were 23. You got pulled over and you said ‘Yo, lemme go, I’ll my a** tattooed with your name.”

“It’s like they forgot who they were, so they don’t identify with these kids. You’re like ‘Listening to Youngboy NBA is wrong’, well you were listening to Tupac!”

Arenas then advised Ja Morant to focus on the growth of his career and persona while avoiding situations like his gun fiasco at a Colorado nightclub in March.

Charles Barkley has been involved in a lot of legal matters over the years

Charles Barkley has had a number of misdemeanors throughout his career. In 1991, he was arrested for allegedly breaking a man’s nose during a fight outside a Milwaukee bar. He was charged with battery and disorderly conduct, and later pleaded no contest to the charges.

In 1997, Barkley was arrested for DUI in Arizona. He pleaded guilty to the charge and served a brief jail sentence.

In 2008, Barkley was again arrested for DUI in Arizona. He pleaded guilty to the charge and served three days in jail.

Barkley has also been involved in several controversies over his comments about race, women, and politics. He has made comments that have been criticized as sexist, racist, and insensitive.

Overall, Barkley’s misdemeanors and controversial comments have tarnished his reputation and led to criticism from fans and media alike.
