“Daryl Morey added a lot of pressure on Joel Embiid”: Sixers GM proclaims this season to be championship-or-bust for Ben Simmons and co
Daryl Morey, the Sixers team President, just added a lot of pressure on Joel Embiid by conveying his high expectations for the big man.
Ever since Joel Embiid has been in the league, he has had expectations to meet. He was the initial hope of ‘the process’ for the revival of the organization’s reputations. Clearly, Joel Embiid has been the franchise player for the Philadelphia 76ers the last few seasons.
The Philadelphia 76ers had a horrifying end to their last season. They got swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round itself. The Sixers are looking to turn that around this year. They are on a good start to this year’s campaign, with the best record in the Eastern Conference with 14 wins and 6 losses.
‘We absolutely have a chance with Joel Embiid’: Daryl Morey makes his expectations clear
Morey took to a press conference to convey his championship-or-bust expectations from Joel Embiid and co:
“I think we’re pretty championship or bust I have to say. Doc Rivers obviously has won one. I haven’t gotten there yet. Joel and Ben haven’t gotten there yet. But, you know, I think you do this, you go into every season, hoping to win the title.”

Every team’s front office believes that their team are championship contenders. But with the talent Sixers have, it might not be false when Morey called themselves title-contenders. Morey also added:
“Not a lot of teams have a chance, but we absolutely have a chance and we’re going to continue to work hard so we give ourselves the best chance possible.”
Although the Sixers have had a great start to this season, it is still way too early to project anything. They would still need to maintain their promising performance throughout the regular season, and into the playoffs. The team clearly has a huge amount of expectations to meet.
