Despite Crowning Victor Wembanyama a 'Cheat Code,' Stephen Curry Reps Scoot Henderson Ahead of the NBA Draft Lottery

The buzz surrounding Victor Wembanyama is real. Stephen Curry himself agrees! Yet, there is another top prospect who finds himself fortunate enough to have the 4-time NBA champion in his corner. While fans are in awe of the French basketball prodigy, Curry is throwing his support behind Scott Henderson ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 NBA Draft Lottery.

Being backed by Curry is quite possibly the best thing a prospect could ask for before the draft. This could be the exact motivation and push that Scoot Henderson needed to prove himself as the best player in the class. Although, the crown, for now, has belonged almost unanimously with Wembanyama – and rightly so.

How did Stephen Curry show his support for Scoot Henderson?

In an Instagram Story that caught the attention of basketball enthusiasts, Curry reposted a picture featuring himself and Henderson.

He also wrote:

“Humbled to be part of the journey. Let’s goo!!”

The journey referenced by Curry can be traced back to a post on Scott Henderson’s Instagram, where he mentioned, “Another step in the process.”

Curry’s involvement in supporting Henderson’s development goes beyond social media posts. Henderson has received valuable shooting guidance from coaches on Curry’s training team. The young prospect engaged in drills that mirror those of the Golden State superstar himself, honing his skills in free throws, catch-and-shoots, and long-range three-pointers.

Speaking about the whole situation, Henderson said:

“Just getting this early training and early knowledge from Steph mentoring me and the people around him, it’s a blessing,” Scoot Henderson said. “Me just turning 19, just getting that knowledge early, it’s really cool.”

What attracts Curry to Henderson extends beyond his exceptional talent on the court. The 19-year-old point guard has displayed a deep commitment to his community in Marietta, Georgia, which resonates with Curry’s own values. Speaking about his motivations, Curry said:

“To be a support system for that and how that’s going to evolve over time, that’s the exciting part and it reinvigorates another energy to what we’re doing because you understand – I’m the old guy – the next generation is about that life as well”

Henderson’s involvement in various philanthropic projects, such as planning holiday gifts and food drives and aiding families in need, exemplifies his understanding of the impact basketball can have beyond the game itself. Curry appreciates this perspective and recognizes the potential for the next generation of players to make a difference both on and off the court.

Curry’s flattering remarks for Victor Wembanyama

Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama, the towering 7-foot-3 French star, has captivated fans worldwide with his remarkable skills. Curry himself has joined the ranks of those in awe of the 18-year-old wunderkind, calling him a “cheat code” due to his extraordinary abilities as a point guard who towers over his opponents. When asked, Curry had this to say about the Frenchman:

“He’s solid, he’s solid, He’s like a 2K create-a-player; every point guard who wants to be 7-foot. Cheat code-type vibes; he’s a solid talent. It’s great to watch.”

Despite his limited playing time in France’s top-tier professional league, where he has averaged 8.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, Wembanyama’s potential is evident.

Against the G League Ignite, he averaged impressive numbers of 36.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, two assists, and 4.5 blocks.

Henderson vs Wembanyama could be the next great rivalry

As the NBA Draft approaches, the basketball world eagerly awaits the fate of Scott Henderson and Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama is projected to be the top pick, thanks to his exceptional skill set and towering stature. However, Curry’s support for Henderson highlights the importance of mentorship and community involvement. With Stephen Curry by his side, can Henderson upset the odds and dethrone Victor Wembenyama as the #1 pick? Or will the Frenchman’s ceiling be enough for NBA teams to pick him first? Only the NBA draft can answer these questions.

The NBA Draft Lottery will soon reveal the potential destinations of these talented players. They will then embark on their professional careers and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of basketball.
