Joel Embiid has established himself as one of, if not, the best centers in the NBA today. Twice having finished second in MVP voting behind fellow All-NBA center, Nikola Jokic in 2021 and 2022, the Cameroonian native seems to be finding his groove this 2022-23 season.

His most recent games after missing several due to rest and injury have seen him have night where has 30, 32, 41, and of course, his career-high 59 against the Utah Jazz. He’s averaging 32.1 points on over 50% shooting from the field this season and is proving why he deserves ever cent of his supermax deal.
Speaking of which, Embiid would go on to sign a supermax deal this past offseason worth $196 million over the course of 4 years. He will be a Philadelphia 76er till the end of the 2026-27 NBA season and by then, hopefully for Philly fans, he’s led them past the Eastern Conference Finals at the very least.
Joel Embiid negotiated his own supermax contract
For someone who earns in the hundreds of millions, Joel Embiid sure is frugal with his money. And rightfully so. Embiid does not come from wealth so him being business savvy makes all the more sense as he doesn’t want to do anything that would hamper this lifestyle that he’s curated for himself.
While talking to Forbes about his NBA career and some of the financial decisions he’s made along the way, he went to reveal how he still has not hired himself an agent. This comes with him having been in the NBA since 2014.
In fact, he negotiated his own $196 million supermax deal. This is quite impressive given that he doesn’t have a business background. Though, simply mathematics would reveal that this is quite the standard supermax deal as his $196 million contract is worth around 35% of the salary cap for any given season.
Joel Embiid and his investments and endorsements
Joel Embiid has established himself as quite the businessman throughout his NBA career. He’s snagged endorsement deals with the likes of Hulu, EA Sports, Crypto.com, and even Amazon.
One of his biggest sources of revenue is his deal with Under Armour. Him alongside Stephen Curry head the basketball division for UA, with the center’s first signature shoe with ‘FLOW’ technology having dropped this past year.
