Despite LeBron James' $97,000,000 statement, High School Friends dispute Lakers star's plans: "He's not finished"

LeBron James shocked the world when he hinted at retirement recently. Following a heartbreaking 4-0 sweep, courtesy of the Denver Nuggets, King James made some comments that put his future in the NBA in doubt. However, with a $97 million contract going down the drain if he chooses to leave, many question the validity of his statements. But, his high school teammates seem to have the answers.

The four-time NBA Champion recently attended the red carpet event for his upcoming film “Shooting Stars”, a movie about his time as a high school phenom. As such, his teammates, known as the “Fab Five” were present as well. And, as they told People, The King still has a job left to do in the league.

Despite rumors surrounding his retirement LeBron James has no plans to do so according to his high school teammates

With a new movie coming out titled “Shooting Stars”, LeBron James has a lot to be excited about. The film covers his growth as a basketball player during his high school days. It features four of his closest friends, Dru Joyce II, Willie McGee, Sian Cotton, and Romeo Travis. They all played alongside The King at St. Vincent-St. Mary High.

A few days ago, all five of them, including James, were present at the red carpet-event for the film. A momentous occasion considering the “Fab Five” were back together again.

Despite all this, the big question on everyone’s mind was the possibility of Bron’s retirement.

The future Hall of Famer suggested he could be done with basketball after the Western Conference Finals loss to the Nuggets. However, his high school teammates have played down those notions. In fact, they believe that he will still be in the NBA next season, as his work there is far from over.

Romeo Travis: “I feel like he still has work to do, with his mentality and all that, his work isn’t done. He’s not finished, nah.”

Willie McGee: “I don’t believe it. I think that was a hard loss and I think he left everything out there.”

In all likelihood, his friends are right. King James still has a lot he wishes to accomplish as a pro before he retires. One of them is playing with his son Bronny. And if their reassurances do not remove doubts, all one has to do is reminisce about his recent Instagram story, which features some inspiring Jay-Z lyrics.

LeBron hinted that he would not be retiring with an IG story featuring Jay-Z’s lyrics

If the Fab Five’s words aren’t convincing enough, perhaps LeBron James’ Instagram story will restate these retirement rumors. The King recently reiterated that he is still the No.1 player in the NBA and that he should continue to be until the day he does retire. A statement he conveyed with the help of some lyrics from Jay-Z’s song, “What More Can I Say?”.

Be that as it may, the NBA is a funny business. And, from what can be seen in and around the rumor mills, no amount of Jay-Z lyrics will convince the fans. The only thing that can is seeing The King dawn his Laker jersey or perhaps another franchise’s jersey for the 2023-2024 season.
