Equipped With Michael Jordan's $2,500,000 Teaching, Marcus Debated 'Fulfiling Contracts' With Larsa Pippen: "Don't Ask For More Money"

Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen have been in a controversial relationship since last year that has come under a lot of criticism. This has led them to openly address their dating life on their podcast, Separation Anxiety. Recently, the two discussed prenuptial agreements and contracts, while talking about the ongoing divorce of a mutual friend. This prompted Marcus to recall some potent advice his father Michael Jordan gave him regarding the ethics of negotiating contracts. In a nutshell, not to ask for more money once a deal is signed. Wisdom that he probably gained when he signed his iconic $2,500,000 rookie deal with Nike.

It was quite an intense discussion. After all, conversations revolving around money tend to be cagey. But through it all, Marcus remained adamant about his take on signing contracts, even when Larsa tried to drive her point across. It goes to show just how impactful His Airness’ teachings were on him.

Michael Jordan advised son Marcus to never ask for more money

On the recent episode of Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen’s podcast, Separation Anxiety, the two ending up discussing the topic of amending contracts. The conversation focused mainly on prenups and NBA contracts. With such a contentious topic at hand, both Marcus and Larsa had some differing opinions.

While discussing the divorce negotiations of a mutual friend, Larsa brought up the legal aspects of signing contracts. In other words, she stated that contracts like prenuptial agreements shouldn’t be fully binding, mainly because of the complex feelings involved in such situations.

On the other hand, Marcus expressed his belief that contracts should be strictly followed, especially once it is signed, it shouldn’t be open to renegotiations. This was a lesson he learned from his father Michael Jordan. Jordan was infamously underpaid during the initial years of his stint with the Chicago Bulls. His rookie $2.5 million contract with Nike wasn’t very rewarding either, compared to the revenue it generated. But MJ honored his word and got rewarded in the end. Citing the wisdom of his $2 billion worth father, Marcus Jordan told Larsa during the conversation:

“Contracts are contracts. If you sign, you sign, right?…My dad has always said, at least when dealing with his NBA contracts. Once the contract is negotiated and signed-even with like Jordan Brand-like its signed. Once you sign on the dotted line it’s signed. Like, don’t ask for more money, don’t come back for an extension…you know!”

Understandably, the two had opposing beliefs when it came to this topic. However, the couple didn’t let it become personal and potentially cause a rift in their relationship.

Larsa Pippen had signed a prenup with Scottie Pippen, whom she divorced in 2021

Before making headlines for her relationship with Marcus Jordan, Larsa Pippen was in the news, thanks to her divorce from her ex-husband Scottie Pippen. After 24 years of marriage, the two decided to call it quits. This eventually led to a highly publicized divorce settlement that many still talk about to this day.

Some reports suggest that Larsa walked away with half of Pippen’s assets from his Chicago Bulls 401k. Although details of the settlement are mostly unknown.

It has been more than a year now since the two separated. And, even though it was a messy process, Scottie and Larsa seem to have moved on and are focused on their new endeavors.
