NBA basketball around the time of the Golden State Warriors’ ascent into greatness changed in quite the drastic manner. Stephen Curry was the catalyst for this change seemingly both on and off the court. Kevin Garnett, a certified ‘old head’, couldn’t fathom bringing phones into the locker room. For Curry and crew, it couldn’t matter less.

Twitter has been around since 2006 and it truly became a breeding ground for sports takes a couple years after its inception. By the time Steph and the Warriors were beginning to make noise in the league, fans across the world had gotten a hang of voicing their opinions on the social media platform.
If there were two players who began the ‘renaissance’ of Twitter takes, it was Steph and LeBron James. Curry’s offensive brilliance coming to the fore coincided with this and it’s safe to say that he hears every last word that’s spoken about him online.
Stephen Curry on reading Twitter takes between games
Stephen Curry appeared on the ‘Old Man and the Three’ podcast earlier during the 2022-23 NBA regular season and claimed that he is very much in tune with the noise that’s surrounding his play. He stated that he reads Twitter takes on his play during half-time in the locker room even tries to prove them wrong if the takes are hateful.
He compared this era of social media to the time when guys like Kevin Garnett and crew were dominating the league, saying it was vastly different in their time.
“It’s funny because he (Andrew Bogut) was bold enough to ask me in the locker room what I’m looking at on my phone. I’ve heard that KG got pissed off at everybody who even brought their phone into the locker room while ours is a pretty loose locker room. As long you come out with the right mindset on the floor, nobody really cares about that,” said Steph.
Curry even mentioned a moment where a Warriors beat writer at halftime asked him on Twitter to do the airplane arms celebration after a made bucket. He saw this tweet and after he made a shot in the 3rd quarter, he did just the same.
Stephen Curry has been receiving all the praise in the world for his 50-point performance
After giving what is being dubbed the ‘greatest speech of his life’ to the Warriors locker room after Game 6 against the Kings, Stephen Curry came out and shot 38 times in Game 7 and ended up with 50 points. This is the most points anybody in NBA history has ever scored in a Game 7.
NBA Twitter blew up for two reasons. One was because of just how incredible Curry’s performance was, many calling it the masterpiece of his career, putting it over his 43 points against Boston in Game 4. The second reason was because of the impending matchup between the Warriors and the Lakers in the WCSF. LeBron vs Steph, Vol. 5.
